Kesari Veer 2025 Movie Review

Set in the late 14th century, Kesari Veer tells the story of Hamirji Gohil, a courageous warrior who stood against the Tughlaq empire to defend the Somnath temple. Located on Saurashtra’s coastline, the Somnath temple, historically known for enduring multiple invasions and reconstructions, forms the backdrop of the narrative. The modern Somnath temple was rebuilt under the guidance of India’s first Deputy Prime Minister, Vallabhbhai Patel, with its consecration in May 1951. In 2009, a statue of Hamirji Gohil was erected near the temple as a tribute to his legacy.

Riding the wave of cinematic nationalism, Kesari Veer blends historical events, legends, and myths surrounding the Somnath temple into its screenplay, prioritizing entertainment over historical precision. The film leans heavily on spectacle and patriotic zeal, often emphasizing veerata (bravery) through masculine intensity. Hamir, portrayed by Sooraj Pancholi, embodies this relentless fierceness, rarely softening his demeanor. The heavy focus on valor suggests a lingering influence of films like Baahubali, with the narrative favoring emotional impact over nuanced storytelling.
