Jaat 2025 Movie Review

The first half of Jaat is both entertaining and engaging, setting the tone with a strong build-up. The plot kicks off with an unexpected conflict—Sunny Deol’s character confronts Randeep Hooda’s Ranatunga over something as trivial as a missing apology. The way he eventually tracks down Ranatunga is intense, with moments of humor peppered throughout. Through this, we’re introduced to the core values and fierce principles of our protagonist—a man who doesn’t hesitate to deliver justice with his fists while standing up for what’s right.

There’s an added layer of intrigue as Sunny’s character emerges as a savior for the villagers of Mootupali, creating a slight air of mystery around his motivations and past.

On the other side, Randeep Hooda’s portrayal of Ranatunga is deeply unsettling—in the best way. He is the personification of evil, and the film effectively establishes his sinister presence early on. Scenes of him worshipping Ravan are used to add depth to his villainy, presenting him as a character who embraces darkness unapologetically.

However, the second half of Jaat loses some of its momentum. The narrative shifts focus towards depicting the brutality of corrupt systems—smugglers, dirty cops, and greedy politicians—all painted in broad, stereotypical strokes. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of character development.

We’re left wanting more insight into Sunny Deol’s backstory, which remains largely untapped. Even the powerful rivalry between his character and Ranatunga, so compellingly built in the first half, fizzles out in the latter part of the film. The supporting cast also suffers, with strong performances not matched by meaningful screen time or narrative depth.
