Gram Chikitsalay 2025 Web Series Review
Following Panchayat and Dupahiya, Prime Video’s Gram Chikitsalay, a TVF production, dives into the rural heartland with Dr. Prabhat Sinha (Amol Parashar), a gold-medalist doctor from a premier Indian medical college. Opting to serve as a medical officer in the fictional Jharkhand village of Bhatkandi, Sinha is driven by a mission to uplift the underprivileged. His idealism, however, meets a harsh reality: the villagers favor Chetak Kumar (Vinay Pathak), a local quack, over a qualified doctor.
While Sinha’s Primary Health Centre (PHC) remains deserted, long queues form at Kumar’s clinic. Sinha faces a dual challenge—winning the villagers’ trust and navigating a deeply entrenched system. He soon realizes that to effect change, he must first shed his rigid idealism and adapt to the community’s ways.
The series begins with the death of 92-year-old Sipahi Chowdhary, caused by Kumar’s reckless “booster” dose treatments. Despite the tragedy, the villagers’ unwavering faith in Kumar underscores their preference for the familiar, however perilous. As Sinha arrives in Bhatkandi, he witnesses Sipahi’s funeral procession, a poignant contrast to his own hopeful beginnings, grounding the narrative in life’s cyclical nature.
At the PHC, Sinha is dismayed by the dire state of affairs—basic facilities are nonexistent, and access to the clinic is blocked by paddy fields. When a farmer, Ramavtar, refuses to clear a path and threatens suicide, Sinha’s attempt to involve the police backfires, exposing him to the harsh realities of local dynamics and forcing him to rethink his approach.
