Jurassic World Rebirth 2025 Movie Review
Fourteen years feels like the right amount of time for a franchise to catch its breath. That’s the gap between Jurassic Park III’s lackluster box office in 2001 and the roaring success of Jurassic World in 2015. But Jurassic World: Dominion, the third in the World trilogy, hit theaters in 2022 with dwindling returns, leaving fans lukewarm about the series. So, it’s no surprise that Jurassic Park: Rebirth, the seventh film in the 32-year-old franchise, arrives with muted excitement. Dinosaurs aren’t the problem—any 12-year-old will passionately defend their timeless appeal—but the magic that once made Jurassic Park and Jurassic World captivating has faded.
Dominion tried to address this fatigue with a bizarre cloning subplot and nostalgic cameos from Jurassic Park icons Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm. It fell flat. Rebirth takes a different tack, positioning itself as a soft reboot. Set in the same universe, it largely cuts ties with past films, offering a standalone adventure with a fresh cast. The core concept—dinosaurs wreaking havoc—remains, but the absence of familiar faces might disappoint fans hoping for a nod to the originals.
The story unfolds on Ile Saint-Hubert, the third of InGen’s mysterious islands. A prologue sets the stage: a hidden jungle lab where experiments go awry, unleashing mutated dinosaurs that overrun the facility, devouring or driving off the scientists. Years later, Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend), a driven executive from ParkerGenix pharmaceuticals, assembles a covert team to infiltrate the island. His mission? Harvest blood from three massive dinosaur species to develop a groundbreaking heart disease drug. International law bans travel to the island, so Krebs operates in secrecy, recruiting mercenary Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), seasoned boat captain Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali), paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey), a former student of Alan Grant, and weapons expert Bobby Atwater (Ed Skrein). En route, the team diverts to answer a distress call, rescuing a stranded family: Reuben Delgado (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), his daughters Teresa (Luna Blaise) and Isabella (Audrina Miranda), and Teresa’s slacker boyfriend, Xavier (David Iacono).
